Distribution and Promotion
1. What is meant by the term film distribution?
How and where the film is being sold and shown and how they advertise it. A film would be distributed well if it is shown in multiple countries and can get enough viewers to gain a profit along with the sized audience that the film was marketed for.
2. What does a film distributor do?
The film distributor decides where it would be best to advertise the film in areas such as cities and in what countries it would appeal to the most. The distributer works within a budget and tries to get the best for the money available by finding where the target audience lives.
3. How does reach relate to film distribution?
The reach is how frequent a person is exposed to the advert which means that they are more inclined to see it. Advertising should include their product being exposed to a person multiple times, mainly through cinema adverts before watching a different film and through social media. To have good reach you would need to advertise on all platforms and on that platform have your advert seen by the same person as many times as possible to constantly remind them of the film.
4. What is meant by the distribution plan?
A distribution plan is an analysis of locations they will advertise the product and how much they will invest into each area to ensure profits, such as many companies would want to invest in parts of cities and towns rather than more rural areas. It also considers where the put advertisements, whether it’s on radios, magazines, TV adverts or posters in the streets.
5. What is meant by the marketing plan?
A marketing plan is what audiences they will be advertising to and how they would reach their target audience with their advertising. They would use research on their target audience and identify what they wish to see and how they can attract the largest audience then invest enough money into advertising to get enough publicity to get a reasonable rate of return.
6. What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?
Advertising is getting your product out there for people to see and to start getting publicity which is where people who are interested in the product gets actively engaged then promotion gets people actively encouraged after they have their attention which then further increases their chance of wanted to see it.
7. Find a teaser poster, teaser trailer, main poster and main trailer for a horror film and put them on your Blog – who was the distributor and in how many countries was it released? Can you find how many screens it was shown in on the opening weekend?
